Our History
February 2020
Work began on the Acceptance Week program, and what become the Youth Pride Association
November 4th, 2020
YPA was incorporated as a Public Benefit Nonprofit Corporation in the state of California, receiving 501(c)3 designation shortly after.
August 2021
YPA was recognized by the California State University Channel Islands and awarded the 2021 President's Award for Student Innovation for the Acceptance Week program.
September 2021
YPA launched the Peer Advocate program (now the Virtual Peer Support program) to provide mentorship to LGBTQ students.
November 2021
YPA launched the Model School Policy Initiative, aimed at advocating for a LGBTQ inclusive learning environment.
December 2021
YPA launched the new expanded Virtual Peer Support program, increasing the impact to LGBTQ students from across the country.
February 2022
YPA hosted the inaugural Acceptance Week program at Royal High School in Simi Valley, California.
March 2022
YPA launches the Virtual Support Group program, available to LGBTQ students in 30 states.
April 2022
As a result of work done through the Model School Policy Initiative, CSU Channel Islands announces the conversion of 15 multi-use restrooms to all-gender restrooms.
May 2022
Cameron Bartosiewicz was awarded the 2022 Newman Civic Fellowship for work done at the Youth Pride Association.
February 2023
YPA awarded Digital Lift Grant, allowing technology investments to improve the delivery of program services.
September 2023
YPA awarded £16,000 grant from the Dr. Martens Foundation to support the Acceptance Week program.
December 2023
In collaboration with 25 nonprofits organizations, educational institutions, state agencies, and other entities, YPA became a Founding Member of the SNEP National Task Force working to address systemic issues facing LGBTQ students.
Today
YPA continues working to educate, support, and advocate for LGBTQ students across the country.
