The Youth Pride Association Denounces Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and the U.S. Department of Education
This comes amid an alarming increase in anti-LGBTQ sentiment, violence, and government action targeting LGBTQ people
Washington, D.C (March 20th, 2025) – The Youth Pride Association (YPA), a national nonprofit working to support LGBTQ students, denounce the actions of Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and the United States Department of Education. Donald Trump and Elon Musk have launched a systematic campaign to dismantle agencies that provide critical oversight and services for marginalized communities. Today, that campaign seeks to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education in violation of the Department of Education Organization Act of 1979.
Donald Trump and Elon Musk have targeted, among many other core functions, the Office of Civil Rights (OCR). The OCR ensures all students, regardless of race, gender, disability, language, income, or sexuality, are provided equal access to education. The OCR provides critical oversight to schools across the country, and for many states, is the only resource LGBTQ have to address violence and discrimination they face in the classroom.
“LGBTQ students already face disproportionate rates of bully, violence, and discrimination. This unilateral decision will substantially harm the millions of LGBTQ students in public schools across the U.S.,” said Cameron Bartosiewicz, President at Youth Pride Association. “Donald Trump and Elon Musk are targeting LGBTQ students, they want our community to suffer.”
